AI search visibility
When somebody asks ChatGPT which tool to use in your category, the answer is assembled from a handful of sources. Usually not your website. This is the work of finding out which sources they are and getting your brand into them.
Why optimising your own pages is not enough
An AI answer is built by pulling from several pages at once. Research on brand queries has found the sources cited are frequently directories, comparison articles and review sites rather than the brand's own domain.
Which means a company can rank first in Google, be named in most AI answers about its category, and still find that the evidence behind those answers comes from somebody else's page.
I went through what that actually means when an AI gets something wrong, and which of the four standard fixes hold up, in ai wrong information about my business.
You can be the subject of the answer while somebody else is the source for it. Only one of them is durable.
How I work on it
01
Run the real questions
Not keywords. The full questions somebody types when choosing between options in your category.
02
Record which sources come back
Every answer, every platform, and which domains appear repeatedly. Without this list, any placement strategy is guesswork.
03
Separate the platforms
ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google pull from different places. A single blended score hides that completely.
04
Work on the sources that matter
Comparison pages, directories and articles by other people. Closer to PR than on-page SEO, and slower.
What you get
- The prompts tested, and the answers they returned
- A ranked list of the sources appearing in your category, by platform
- Where your brand currently sits: cited, mentioned, or absent
- Which competitors are being cited instead, and where
- A prioritised list of sources worth getting into, with the reasoning
What I will tell you before you pay
The source list changes. Reddit's share of ChatGPT citations fell sharply within a few weeks in 2026, while its presence in Google's AI answers barely moved over the same period. Anything built on a single snapshot ages.
So this is worth re-running quarterly rather than treating as a one-off. I will tell you that at the start rather than after you have built a campaign on a list that has moved.
